HPT versus EFI Live?

I have always used npt. But, I am wondering about EFI Live due to its ability to tune the tranny. Correct?

anyone with thoughts?

ok... a bit more research and it looks like hpt will manage the tcm42 just fine.

I honestly do not know anything about the tuning process, but I do know that I am running an EFI Live tune in my car. I havent had any problems with mine. What are you looking to do with the tranny and maybe I can answer a question for you.

(most likely I wont be able to as I just take my car in and Corey does his thing and I get happy with the numbers, but I will try )

^^^^ I am going to finish converting the car from M6 to A4 (already have the 4L80 in it and running) but we are going to change out the main harness and install a tcm42needed to control the 4l80e tranny. The car will need to be reflashed as a a4 car (the ecm) but I am being told that only a tech2 can be used for that (that's another issue). But the tcm42 will need programmed and codes removed or it will run in limp mode. I was told that hpt will not remove those tranny codes, but EFI will. But.... I ordered a tcm42 from pcm4less and spent the extra to have them program it and also remove the codes.

so.... for now, I don't THINK I will need EFI. Got a tech2 handy?

The only advantage I know of with EFIlive over HPT is the ability to tune Duramax's. I'd assume it could get into the TCM since there's a tab for it, but I've never seen the parameters for it myself since my car is manual.

Tom, all the tech 2 is going to do is be the pass through module. As the real programming comes from GM service programming. You have to connect the tech 2 or the new replacement the MDI to the vehicle and then connect to a computer to do the reflash/programming. There is an advantage to using the MDI as it is computer based to start with. So as long as it had internet connection, you would be good to go.

Glad to help out my friend. Just let me know when you are ready to get it flashed and I will check with Bobby about when and where we can get it done.
